What Love Used to Be

from Street Poet by Jeremy Joyce

/

lyrics

If love could be what it used to be
When we were young and our hearts were free
We used to fall so easily
When love could be what it used to be

When love was an ocean and I jumped right in
I didn’t care if I would sink or swim
Now safe from the shore I watch the gulls on the wind
Thinkin’ how I used to jump right in

Our lows were low, our highs they were high
With each broken heart, I felt like I would die
Tell me little baby, is that the reason why
We’re afraid to fall in love again

If a new branch grows from a fallen tree
If a blind dog wags his tail at me
If two old folks dance cheek to cheek
Maybe love could be what it used to be

about

Jeremy Joyce New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans couldn’t offer a more appropriate musical backdrop for Jeremy Joyce, whose genre-defying songs are born out of Jeremy’s macro-level interest in music history and his micro-level interest in what makes songs tick.
