High Heel Blues

from Street Poet by Jeremy Joyce

/

lyrics

Wake up in the morning, look into my bed
Where is that high class girl who rests her head
I know I’m a dreamer. I like to pretend.
Maybe one day there'll be the real thing instead.

City girls like rich guys and upscale spots
Everything that they need is something I ain’t got
I try to act high class, they see through my ruse
They walk away I get the high heel blues

Every day on my way to work
A fine looking phillie in a high cut skirt
I want to make a move, I don’t know what to say
I just sit and watch her as she walks off the train

Saturday, I sat there all alone
I didn’t hear a single peep out of my telephone
I fall asleep in front of the screen
There’s a well dressed mama waiting in a dream

about

Jeremy Joyce New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans couldn’t offer a more appropriate musical backdrop for Jeremy Joyce, whose genre-defying songs are born out of Jeremy’s macro-level interest in music history and his micro-level interest in what makes songs tick.
