Street Poet 03:30
As the day begins to fade, and the horns begin to sound Street Poet makes her station on the busy sidewalk ground She composes rhyming couplets on her typewriter with ease The phrases seem to fly to her like birds between the trees She writes of dreams, summer lust, new love in the spring It’s a dollar for a stanza but she’ll trade most anything A tourist takes the torn sheet, puts the paper in her purse That night upon the airplane, she recounts the poet’s words Saying love is like a ghost, you can’t see it but it’s there One day unexpected you might get an awful scare Don’t get misdirected if someone phones you up tonight Happiness reflects itself. Let love into your life. It might not be eternity, but let’s see what we can see A way to grow, a way to heal. Let me show you how I feel. Valley low, mountain high. You’re the apple of my eye We won’t know unless The poet types intently, her long hair tumbles down Toes tapping to the polytonal tamber of her town Some say she’s got a knack for seeing the unseen She puts it in to poetry the fabric of your dream I sit beside the poet, she stares into my soul I said tell me poet tell me are there stories left untold It’s all upon the page, the ribbon prints no lies The wisdom of the ages: let love into your life.

Love Changes 03:18
People are allowed to change their minds You changed yours. I changed mine But don’t forget to be kind When it’s time time to say goodbye Once we were in love Once we were together We walked hand in hand Braving stormy weather Sometimes fools rush in They don’t know no better Once we were in love Once we were in love But love changes Love Changes I’m not gonna hate you. I’m not gonna berate you. But I’ve just got to stay true We both know that we’re through Sometimes it hurts alot I get mad and want to blow up your spot But I check myself, I stop And I remember Once we were in love Once we were together We walked hand in hand Braving stormy weather Sometimes fools rush in They don’t know no better Once we were in love Once we were in love But love changes Love Changes

We could linger though the raindrops fall I’ve got nowhere to be at all Her fingers in my hand I’m a happy man We could linger though the raindrops fall I know you can’t invite me in So let’s stroll down the street again I hear a pitter pat Tapping rhythm on my hat We could linger though the raindrops fall Let's take it slow That way we know What were feeling isn’t false Then if we do Share a kiss or two We’ll know that our stars aren’t crossed I could gaze upon you all night long I could fall asleep on your front lawn Thought we’ve recently just met And our clothes are getting wet We could linger though the raindrops fall

Wake up in the morning, look into my bed Where is that high class girl who rests her head I know I’m a dreamer. I like to pretend. Maybe one day there'll be the real thing instead. City girls like rich guys and upscale spots Everything that they need is something I ain’t got I try to act high class, they see through my ruse They walk away I get the high heel blues Every day on my way to work A fine looking phillie in a high cut skirt I want to make a move, I don’t know what to say I just sit and watch her as she walks off the train Saturday, I sat there all alone I didn’t hear a single peep out of my telephone I fall asleep in front of the screen There’s a well dressed mama waiting in a dream

Being Sweet Is Neat Nice that’s alright But what I really want is a bad girl tonight Be bad to me baby So bad to me baby Be Bad to me baby Dirty, nasty and mean I used to go for girls Who would only hug and kiss Now I like to date a girl Who cracks the whip Be bad to me baby So bad to me baby Be Bad to me baby Dirty, nasty and mean I used to go for girls Sweet as apple pie Treat me like a prince With a sparkle in their eye Now I like a girl Who’s got an evil streak When the light goes She turns into a freak Be bad to me baby So bad to me baby Be Bad to me baby Dirty, nasty and mean

If love could be what it used to be When we were young and our hearts were free We used to fall so easily When love could be what it used to be When love was an ocean and I jumped right in I didn’t care if I would sink or swim Now safe from the shore I watch the gulls on the wind Thinkin’ how I used to jump right in Our lows were low, our highs they were high With each broken heart, I felt like I would die Tell me little baby, is that the reason why We’re afraid to fall in love again If a new branch grows from a fallen tree If a blind dog wags his tail at me If two old folks dance cheek to cheek Maybe love could be what it used to be

I see you looking at me and I know what’s on your mind. We’ve been friends for a while, always thought you were fine. Should we hold back and follow all the rules Or should we do the things that we shouldn’t do Take my hand, look in my eyes I’m gonna keep on drinking and it’s no surprise That I want to lose myself and fall into you I want to do the things that we shouldn’t do It’s a small town baby Everybody’s gonna talk tomorrow night They all call me crazy What I want to do isn’t right Lead me to your apartment. Let me crawl through the door. I know things won’t be like they was before The sun is coming up. The radio moans a tune While we do the things that we shouldn’t do

Across the Neutral Ground, passed the B.M.C A busker bucket drumming at a quarter to three Keep your head down, but don't stare at your feet Somebody got stabbed last night The Queen of the Quarter presides over court The Duke of the Dark tries his hand at the sword She eats him up just the like meat on her fork He didn't even put up a fight Follow the river down to the side of town where the night people go to meet Down on Decatur where late gets later and the sidewalk sticks to your feet Drugs in your hand, a one night stand, you got a reason to stay awake Ain't no heart that likes to play in the dark that doesn't know how to break Sunglasses, eyelashes, dye in her hair She doesn't own a single set of underwear Says it’s gonna me a dollar to stare I put my money down Whiskey and Water, Bourbon and Coke Drinkin’ all my money till I'm good and broke. Playing chicken with my liver trying not to choke Don’t turn this car around Rattle them bones, Rattle that can Shake what you got to an old jug band Nickel Quarter Dollar, better pay the man If you want to get your thrills Blood on the carpet, Blood on the walls Blood on the seat of the bathroom stall Looking at your phone for somebody to call But you forgot to pay the bill

Old woman standing on the cold hard ground Waiting for some good luck to come around Sleeping bag ruined from the pouring rain Hands so cold she can't hold no change A young boy hurting with no one to call Who never knew for certain if he's loved at all On a one way trip to an early grave Times like this, they need to change Times like these, they need to change Break open the locks and let the rivers rage People of the world, rise up and say Times like these, they need to change I've seen people in the streets with blood on their face A punk in the heat laid his body to waste A mother making groceries on a roll of dimes Wonder how she's gonna pay the bills this time

about

Jeremy Joyce New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans couldn’t offer a more appropriate musical backdrop for Jeremy Joyce, whose genre-defying songs are born out of Jeremy’s macro-level interest in music history and his micro-level interest in what makes songs tick.
